How to Store Your Press-On Nails Between Wears

To store press-on nails for another wear, clean the adhesive off the back of each nail, let them dry, and keep them in their case at room temperature, away from heat and direct sun. Putting them back in finger order makes your next application faster.

Press-ons you take care of can be worn again. The more times you wear a set, the more you get out of it, and storage is most of it.

Start with a gentle removal

A set can only be reused if it comes off in one piece. Soak your fingertips in warm, soapy water for 10 to 15 minutes, then gently wiggle each nail from the base until it lifts. Pulling or prying can crack a nail or bend its edge. It can also hurt your natural nail. Our removal guide walks through each step.

Clean off the adhesive

Leftover glue or tab residue makes the next application uneven and less secure, so clean each nail before you store it.

  • Tab residue: Peel off what you can, then rub the rest away with your thumb. A short soak in warm, soapy water loosens anything sticky.
  • Glue residue: Soak the nails in warm, soapy water for a few minutes. Then use the cuticle pusher to gently lift the softened glue from the underside. For small bits that won't budge, lightly smooth the underside with the buffing block.

Keep acetone and nail polish remover away from the nails themselves, since they can dull or damage the finish. Let everything air dry completely before it goes back in the case.

Keep them in their case

Every Nailoli set comes with a case for this reason. Loose nails in a drawer or makeup bag get scratched, chipped, and separated. A case keeps the set together and the finish protected.

Store them in finger order

Put the nails back in order, thumb to pinky, left hand then right. The next time you apply, you can skip sizing and matching and go straight to prep.

If you wear Essentials, you'll have extra sizes left over from the 24 in the set. Keep those in the case too. It's handy to note which sizes you used for each finger, so your next application goes even faster.

Keep them away from heat and sun

A hot car, a sunny windowsill, or a spot near the bathroom heater can warp press-ons over time. Direct sun can also fade some colors. A drawer or shelf at room temperature is all they need.

Check each nail before you wear it again

Before you reapply, look over each nail for cracks, lifted edges, or chips in the finish. A small scuff on the underside won't show. A crack at the tip or a bent edge usually means that nail is done. If one nail in a set is past its best, the rest can often still be worn.

Quick tip: Clean your nails right after you remove them, while any leftover glue is still soft from the soak. Dried glue takes more effort to lift.

Why reuse matters

A salon manicure is gone once it's removed. A press-on set you take care of can come back out for another week, another event, or another season. That's part of what makes press-ons cost less over time. For the full comparison, see what a year of salon manicures costs.

Frequently asked questions

How many times can you reuse press-on nails?

It depends on how gently the set comes off and how it's stored. Nails removed with a soak, cleaned, and kept in their case can often be worn more than once. Check each nail for cracks before you reapply.

Can you reuse press-on nails with glue?

Yes. Soak the nails to soften the old glue, lift it off the underside with the cuticle pusher, and let them dry completely before reapplying with fresh glue or tabs.

What's the best way to store press-on nails?

Clean and dry them, then keep them in their case in finger order, at room temperature and out of direct sun.
