How to Remove Press-On Nails Without Damaging Your Natural Nails
Share
To remove press-on nails without damage, soak your fingertips in warm, soapy water for 10 to 15 minutes, work cuticle oil around the edges, or use a press-on glue remover, then gently wiggle each nail from the base until it lifts. Never pull, twist, or peel a nail that's still bonded. If it resists, give it more time.
Soak first
Warm, soapy water softens the adhesive so the nail can release on its own. Glue-applied sets usually need the full 10 to 15 minutes. Tab-applied sets often lift after a shorter soak, since tabs let go more easily than glue. If a nail doesn't lift with gentle pressure, it needs more time in the water, not more force.

Shop the setOr use a glue remover
A press-on glue remover softens glue faster than water alone. Apply it around the edges of each nail and under any lifted spot, follow the timing on the bottle, then wiggle gently from the base. If you plan to wear the set again, choose an acetone-free remover, since acetone can dull or damage the finish on press-ons.
Wiggle gently from the base
Once the adhesive softens, gently wiggle each nail from the base. It should lift with minimal resistance. If you feel it pulling at your natural nail, stop and soak again.

Clean up and rehydrate
Roll any leftover adhesive off your natural nail with your fingertip. Tab residue usually comes right off this way. Glue can leave a harder layer that won't roll off, and if it does, buff it away gently with the buffing block, using light strokes and stopping as soon as the surface feels smooth. Then apply cuticle oil or hand cream. Removal dries out the nail, even when it's done carefully.
Give your nails a short break
You don't need weeks off between sets. A day or two of bare nails lets them rehydrate before your next application.

Quick tip: Planning to reuse the set? Clean the adhesive off the back of each nail while it's still soft from soaking, then let the nails dry before they go back in the case.
